PM GatiShakti Multi-Modal Hub Network Expands with Western DFC Connectivity & MMLP Nodes
India's national infrastructure transformation has achieved a crucial milestone with the operational integration of new Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) alongside the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). Spearheaded under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, these strategic logistical nodes provide seamless rail-road connectivity between inland industrial hubs in Northern India and gateway ports including JNPT, Mundra, and Pipavav. The expansion enables high-capacity double-stack container train operations, drastically cutting freight transit time between Delhi-NCR and West Coast maritime hubs from 72 hours down to under 24 hours.
Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) Integration
The acceleration of DFC feeder routes and private freight terminal connections has significantly enhanced rail modal share, aligning with India's National Logistics Policy (NLP) goal of reducing overall logistics costs from 13-14% of GDP to single-digit targets. State-of-the-art MMLPs equipped with automated container handling equipment, rail sidings, cold storage, and bonded warehousing facilities are drawing substantial private sector investments, establishing India as a competitive global manufacturing and export hub.
NLP Digital ULIP Enhancements for Customs Clearance
On the digital governance front, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) under the NLP has expanded API integration across 34 digital systems across 10 ministries, including ICEGATE, FASTag, FOIS, and VAHAN. This unified digital layer empowers customs brokers, freight forwarders, and 3PL operators with real-time end-to-end cargo tracking, automated customs document validation, and streamlined clearance workflows, substantially lowering administrative overhead and dwell times at ICDs and port gateways.
